Wigan Go After Manchester United Target & Paraguayan Star Cabanas

Wigan Athletic, Manchester United Premiership Transfer News

Wigan Athletic are planning a move for Paraguayan International striker Salvador Cabanas, as Latics boss Steve Bruce continues his search for a replacement for Antoine Sibierski, who will be allowed to leave the club this summer.

27-year-old Cabanas currently plays for Club America in Mexico and has scored 33 goals in 68 appearances for the Eagles since joining them in 2006 from Jaguares de Chiapas.

The forward also has 33 caps for Paraguay, where he partners Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz up-front.

Cabanas had been linked with a move to rival Premier League club Manchester United earlier this summer, who have also been linked with Paraguayan team mate Santa Cruz.

According to his agent Jose Maria Gonzalez, Wigan have already made enquiries as to the possibility of bringing Cabanas to the JJB Stadium.

Gonzalez told the Wigan Evening Post: "There has been contact with Wigan.

"It would be a good move forward because he would love to test himself in the Premier League. Wigan are well established with a fine manager.

"We are thinking about it and we will see what develops. The Premier League is an incredibly exciting league and the world's best players are there”.
