West Ham’s Ashton To Be Fit For Man City Clash
West Ham United ace Dean Ashton has given encouraging news to Alan Curbishley and Hammers fans by expressing optimism that he will be fit for Sunday's clash with Manchester City.
The 24-year-old scored a brace to take the Hammers to a 2-1 win over Wigan on the opening day, but failed to complete the game as he limped out of the action in the 73rd minute.
With Craig Bellamy and Kieron Dyer still out, Curbishley hoped that Ashton did not suffer a serious problem and he will be delighted that the England man had only suffered a cramp and will be fit for the next weekend.
"It was just cramp. I should be training with the team on Tuesday," Ashton told the club's official website.
"I am really glad that it is not a bad injury. I am looking forward to joining in training tomorrow and getting on with playing.
"Overall, I am really pleased with how pre-season has gone for me and then to get off to a good start in the first game - especially with two goals.
"Hopefully I can keep that going on Sunday."
