Chelsea's Wright-Phillips To Snub Portsmouth For Man City Return?

Portsmouth, Manchester City, Chelsea Premiership Transfer News

Portsmouth look likely to miss out on transfer target Shaun Wright-Phillips to Manchester City, with reports claiming that the Chelsea winger is in Manchester undergoing a medical at the Eastlands Stadium.

Pompey manager Harry Redknapp has been linked with a move for the England International all summer, but looks set to miss out to City, with the former City player having a change of heart and heading North for a medical with the Lancashire club.

26-year-old Wright Phillips looks set to become surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. With the expected arrival of Brazilian International Robinho from Real Madrid this week in a reported £30million (€37.3m) deal.

Wright-Phillips originally had reservations about going back to his former club, where he was a crowd favourite before his move to Chelsea in 2005. Due to the uncertainty of City owner Thaksin Shinawatra’s future, amidst reports of financial trouble at the Eastlands.

However it now appears that the midfielder is undergoing a medical at the Blues before he will complete his return to the side he joined from Nottingham Forest in 1996, with the England man opting to choose the Eastlands over Fratton Park.
