‘Unacceptable’ Shorey Bid Turned Down – Portsmouth, Newcastle, Aston Villa & Sunderland All Linked
Reading boss Steve Coppell, while confirming that an unnamed club has failed with a bid for Nicky Shorey, has sought to tell the likes of Portsmouth, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Sunderland – who all have reportedly been interested in the left-back – that until the right offer comes in, he will not sell.
Coppell had recently put several top-flight clubs on the alert by saying that he feels the 27-year-old England international will be leaving this summer, as the Royals are now relegated to the Championship.
However, Coppell is under no pressure to sell and as such is holding out for the suitors to come in with a bid matching the player’s valuation, and revealed that Shorey also agrees with the stance.
"We do not need to sell anyone so I am not going to give anyone away," said Coppell.
"The offer we have had is not one that we find acceptable. I have spoken to Nicky and he accepts the situation."
