The Premier League teams involved in this seasons UEFA Cup will have mixed feelings regarding their opponents for the first round proper.

Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa were all in the draw that took place in Monaco on Friday. With the ties to take place on September 18th and October 2nd.

Spurs will face what they would consider a relatively easy tie against Polish side Wista Krakow, which could prove to be more difficult on the pitch than it looks on paper for Juande Ramos’ team.

Man City were lucky to be in the draw after just scraping through on penalties in the last round and they will face Omonia from Cyprus.

Everton look to have drawn the hardest tie, with the Toffees set to meet Belgian club Standard Liege, who were unlucky to be knocked out of the Champions League by Everton’s local rivals Liverpool.

Portsmouth have a unknown entity to play in Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes, who are not expected to provide tough opposition for the FA Cup Winners.

Aston Villa are set to face little known Bulgarian outfit Litex, with the Villans expecting to progress through to the group stage without much fuss.

The winners of these two-legged ties will progress through to the group stage of the UEFA Cup, where the teams are divided into eight groups of five, with the top three qualifying.
