Brazilian midfielder Gilberto's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin has fallen through.

The 31-year-old underwent a medical in London on Sunday and both clubs had reached an agreement over a fee, with the player having agreed personal terms.

But the deal has been called off on Thursday after results of a second medical yesterday.

Hertha Berlin released a statement saying that the second medical: "prevented a contract between the player and Tottenham Hotspur from being concluded to the original conditions".

"The Brazilian national team player Gilberto will fulfil his contract until June 2008 with Hertha Berlin."

It is expected that Gilberto will join the North London club in the summer transfer window.
