Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow as it has emerged that teenage left-back Gareth Bale is set to be out for rest of the season.

The 18-year-old Wales international had suffered a foot injury in December and had his cast only just taken off.

The North London club's sporting director, Damien Comolli said: "Gareth's injury was reviewed and although the surgeon was happy with the results of the x-rays, he does not anticipate Gareth being able to play any further part in this season.

"We are all disappointed for Gareth, but he is still very young and his long-term fitness is our priority."

Bale, who joined Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2007, had been impressive in his short career at White Hart Lane.
