Sunderland v Man City Match Preview: Wright-Phillips & Jo Set For City Debut – Cisse Likely To Start For Black Cats

Sunderland, Manchester City Premiership Match Previews

England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is set to make his debut for Manchester City on his return, as Mark Hughes’ side travel to Sunderland for Sunday’s Premiership outing.

Wright-Phillips moved back to the Eastlands club after failing to establish himself in the Chelsea side. And City beat several rival clubs to bring the winger back to the City of Manchester Stadium as Hughes needed reinforcements in the attack.

Sunderland, meanwhile, are riding on a high after two successive wins – last weekend’s victory at Tottenham and mid-week success against Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup; and manager Roy Keane will be hoping his side can give a good account of themselves against City, who won against West Ham last weekend before scoring a tie-breaker win away against Danish outfit FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.

New-signings Djibril Cisse and David Healy could make home debuts for the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light with the former likely to start having scored the winner at Spurs coming off the bench. Midfield duo of Steed Malbranque and Kieran Richardson are, however, doubtful starters.

City are unlikely to have Micah Richards in the starting line-up after he suffered a sickening knock on the head against West Ham. Captain Richard Dunne is set to play after having missed the first two Premiership games due to suspension. Club record signing Jo is likely to make his debut.
