Sunderland Make Colgan Second Signing - Spurs Trio To Follow?
Sunderland have completed their second signing of the season by offering Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Nick Colgan a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
34-year-old Colgan comes to the Black Cats as a surprise signing, having been released by Ipswich Town at the end of last season and failing to earn himself a contract with Bradford.
However, Sunderland manager Roy Keane has decided to give Colgan a chance of playing in the Premier League by providing cover for Scottish International Craig Gordon.
Colgan becomes Keane’s second signing of the summer, with Teemu Tainio joining from Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday and Pascal Chimbonda, Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul weighing up moves away from White Hart Lane to the Stadium of Light.
“It's a huge challenge which I'm really looking forward to,” Colgan told the club's official website.
“I got the call from the gaffer and he gave me 24 hours to think about it, but I think it took me about 24 seconds to decide!
“He told me he wants to carry a good squad of goalkeepers and it's my job to bring my experience to the other keepers and to add some pressure on them and keep them on their toes, and I'm looking forward to getting started.”
