Sunderland Linked As Former Man United Striker Forlan Open To Return To Premiership
Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has revealed he is willing to play in England again, and Sunderland are reportedly keeping a close watch on the former Manchester United player’s situation at Atletico Madrid.
Black Cats boss Roy Keane, who had been Forlan’s team-mate at Old Trafford, had apparently tried to sign the 28-year-old last summer, but was priced out of the race for the £16m-rated striker, who then left Villarreal for Atletico.
While Forlan failed to impress in his stint in the English game, he has made a name for himself in Spain as he scored 56 goals in 106 outings for the El Submarino Amarillo. He has scored 13 times in 26 outings for Atletico.
"I didn't have a lot of chances to shine in England," Forlan is quoted as saying in the Northern Echo.
"If a club gave me the chance to return to this championship, I would think about it very seriously.
"I loved living in this country (England)."
