Stoke v Everton Premiership Preview – Potters Eye Another Upset – Fellaini Could Make Toffees Debut
Everton will be looking to take full points from their visit to new-entrants Stoke City in the only Premiership game on Sunday.
David Moyes’ men are keen to build momentum for the season after a slow start which has so far seen the Toffees take just three points from the first three games.
On the other hand, Tony Pulis’ side, who also have three points, will look to repeat their performance to thrill their home fans at the Britannia Stadium after having shocked Aston Villa 3-2 in their first home game this term.
Toffees could have transfer deadline day signing Marouane Fellaini making his debut, even as Moyes has been boosted by the recovery of injured midfielders Steven Pienaar and Tim Cahill. However, the Potters game is too soon for the duo.
Summer-signing Louis Saha could at best get a place on the substitutes’ bench after the injury-prone striker moved to Goodison Park from Manchester United, but is apparently yet to be match fit having missed the pre-season.
Toffees’ new-signing, Denmark right-back Lars Jacobsen suffered a shoulder problem on international duty, and as such the 28-year-old is unlikely to feature and will have to wait for his debut.
Pulis also has injury and suspension problems to tackle and goalkeeper Steve Simonsen, who left the Toffees in 2004 summer to join Stoke, could face his old club as first-choice Thomas Sorensen has a back problem. Amdy Faye is suspended and Glenn Whelan could come into the side.
