Spurs' Defoe Sweats On Transfer Deadline As He Waits For Benjani's City Move To Be Confirmed
Portsmouth have yet to confirm the transfer of Jermain Defoe to Fratton Park from Tottenham Hotspur, as the Portsmouth directors are currently waiting for confirmation from Manchester City that Zimbabwean striker Benjani Mwaruwari will be making a move from Pompey to Manchester City.
Defoe underwent a medical at Fratton Park and agreed personal terms on Thursday evening, but the deal was held-up while the Portsmouth directors confirmed the transfer of Benjani, which still hasn't been confirmed as the midnight deadline looms.
The papers necessary to complete the transfer for Jermain Defoe have reportedly already been received at The FA headquarters in Soho Square, with the transfer of the 25-year-old expected to have been finalised hours ago.
Defoe, speaking to skysportsnews after having passed a medical at Fratton Park, said: “I can’t wait to be honest, I just want to get my boots on and get on with it.
“I just want to play some football and score some goals.”
