Spurs Priced Out Of Arshavin Move As Agent Accuses Zenit In New Football Slavery Row
Russian International Andrei Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter has hit out at Zenit St Petersburg for pricing the EURO 2008 star out of a move to Tottenham Hotspur. With Lachter claiming that Arshavin “is being treated like a slave” by Zenit.
Spurs have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old Russian all summer. With it reported that Zenit want £21million (€26.5m) for their playmaker.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made Arshavin Spurs’ main target this summer, but has found negotiations with the Russian club testing to say the least. With it believed that Zenit have turned down an offer of £12.5million (€15.8m) to bring Arshavin to White Hart Lane from the North London club.
This has infuriated Lachter, who insists he was told by Zenit that Arshavin could leave if an offer was received between £9.5million (€12m) and £12million (€15.1m). With Lachter going as far as accusing Zenit of treating his client “like a slave.’
Lachter said: “The player is very disappointed and I am very frustrated.
“He would have come to Tottenham but he is being treated like a slave.
“I had a conversation with (Spurs chairman Daniel) Levy and it was very embarrassing. He is frustrated.”
