Spurs In Pole Position For Canadian Midfielder?
Tottenham Hotspur are said to be ahead of several clubs in the race to land Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Julian de Guzman.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Spurs seem to be in pole position to clinch the signing of the Canada international, who is also linked to Gareth Southgate’s Middlesbrough.
Clubs from Spain and Germany are also said to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, who is out of contract with Deportivo in the summer.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is looking to bolster the north-London club this month as the White Hart Lane outfit are yet to escape the worrisome prospect of relegation with a loss to Wigan Athletic on Sunday pushing them into the Premiership drop zone.
de Guzman has been with Deportivo since 2005 after his arrival at the Spanish club from Hannover 96. The defensive midfielder has made 77 appearances for El Turco and scored 1 goal.
De Guzman is quoted as saying: “There have been some offers made from teams in Spain, Germany and England.”
