Spurs Boss Redknapp Hopes To Sign Downing, Glen Johnson & Appiah

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is hopeful of signing Stewart Downing from Middlesbrough when the transfer window reopens in January; and also hopes to sign Glen Johnson from Portsmouth and Stephen Appiah, who is a free agent after leaving Fenerbahce, according to the Mirror.

Spurs are said to be set to increase their offer for England winger Downing from £11 million to £15m and the deal could be completed in the first week of the New Year.

24-year-old Downing has been constantly linked with the north London club, and it had appeared as though his new deal of five years at the Riverside – signed in February – would put an end to the speculation. However, with the transfer market opening drawing closer, it seems that Spurs are once again keen on luring Downing to the White Hart Lane.

Moreover, Boro boss Gareth Southgate could be looking to generate funds for his transfer dealings and as such is reported to be happy to get the suitors to match the asking price, which is said to be £15million in case of Downing.

Former Portsmouth boss Redknapp is also reported to be eyeing Pompey right-back Johnson. With the South Coast club apparently facing tough financial situation, a right bid for the England international, could see the former Chelsea player back in London.

Ghana captain Appiah is still without a club, and Spurs after having missed out on Lassana Diarra, who has been sanctioned a move from Portsmouth to Real Madrid, are said to be looking to bring in the former Juventus midfielder.
