Centre-back Sami Hyypia, who captained Liverpool to 4-0 win against Toulouse in the Champions League qualifier At Anfield on Tuesday night, has declared that any club looking to sign him are wasting their time.

Fulham and Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the 33-year-old Finn, who is in his final year of contract with the Reds.

Hyypia recovered from a broken nose from Saturday’s 2-0 win at Sunderland to lead the Reds in the absence of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

He also scored a goal in the rout of the French side with Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt, who scored a brace, completing a big win taking Rafa Benitez’s side into group stages.

“I’ll always be ready whenever I get the shout to play,” said Hyypia in Liverpool Echo.

“So far, I’m okay with this situation. I know I’ll get to play a lot of games. When I get the chance to play, I’ll show what I can do.

“There were stories in the newspapers about some clubs, but I’d already spoken to the boss after Athens last season and he told me he didn’t want to sell me. For me, that was what I wanted to hear.”
