Derby County have confirmed that winger Laurent Robert’s contract has been cancelled by mutual consent.

The 32-year-old former Newcastle United and Portsmouth player had joined the Rams in January as a free agent, penning a deal to stay at Pride Park Stadium until the end of the season.

However, the Frenchman failed to make an impact and made only three starts for the already-relegated side, although he had impressed during a trial.

Boss Paul Jewell said on the club’s official website: "It didn't quite work out for Laurent here but we wish him well in the future."

It had been reported yesterday that Robert has flown to Canada for a trial with Major League Soccer side Toronto.
