Riera Eyes Torres Partnership To Boost Liverpool
Liverpool’s summer-signing Albert Riera is excited to team up with compatriot Fernando Torres at Anfield.
The Spanish international left-winger joined the Reds from Espanyol, and is now relishing the opportunity to boost the Reds attack with a continuous supply of crosses and get full value for his work with a proven quality target-man in his fellow country-man Torres up front.
Riera, who has the Premiership experience up his sleeve from his loan spell at Manchester City in 2006, said: "To play with one of the best strikers in the world is perfect for someone like me who likes to get the ball into the box as often as I can.
"I am sure that we will connect on the pitch and I cannot wait to play with him and also the rest of the team. But it is up to the boss who plays and who doesn't play.”
The 26-year-old, who was also a target for Reds’ Merseyside rivals Everton this summer before he pledged his future to Rafa Benitez’s side, expressed his keenness to be part of the first-team straightway and feature in all games.
He said: "Like the rest of the players I will want to play all the matches, whether it is the league, FA Cup or Carling Cup.
"All I can do is try to make sure I am fit for every game and then it will be up to the boss whether I play or not.
"I am not the kind of player who can promise 20-30 goals every season but what I can promise is that I will give 100% in every single game."
