Reading’s Hunt Looking For Crucial Win Against Tottenham

Reading Premiership Player News

Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt has said that the final two games of the season are the “biggest two games” of his career as Steve Coppell’s side are fighting to avoid the drop with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur and away clash to relegated Derby to come.

The Royals, who had an impressive last season finishing 8th in their debut top-flight campaign, are currently just one place and one point above the relegation zone.

"These two games are the biggest two games of my career, that's for sure. If you don't play in the Premiership then everything that comes with it goes pretty quickly and you're forgotten about,” the Republic of Ireland international said on the club’s official website.

"It's a situation we don't like to be in, to be honest. But hopefully we can get the win on Saturday, have a good week's training and make sure everyone is raring to go for Derby.

"We're fighting for our lives and fighting for a lot of people's jobs as well I'd imagine - it's not easy to say that but it's true. Hopefully we can put their minds at ease a little bit on Saturday.

"I enjoy the pressure, and I'm looking forward to this weekend. I'm going to be relaxed, try to stay focussed and not be involved in any of the hype. I've had people phoning me all the time saying you're going to be safe - but that's got nothing to do with it.

"I've been involved in relegation battles in the past with Brentford and Crystal Palace. It's not easy, but sometimes it can be enjoyable because you have something to play for.

"Saturday is our last home game of the season, and for me personally the fans have been great so hopefully I can send them off on a high."

Looking closely at Spurs, he added: "Spurs have strengthened their defence and bought quality with Jonathan Woodgate. They'll be looking for a good away performance, and they probably prefer plying away from home with their style of play.

"They've been a bit inconsistent, but when they have played well, they've been good enough to beat anyone in this league. Hopefully they'll have an off day, but we need to be 100 per cent on our game to win the game.

"Spurs have enough quality, they could have scored three or four last week against Bolton, they had a lot of chances.

"Robbie (Keane) has had a good season. He has been one of the top strikers in the division this year, he's been consistent and scored goals. He's difficult to mark because he floats so we have to be on our toes to keep a clean sheet."
