Ramos: 'No Barcelona Contact For Berbatov' - 'Tottenham Have Not Signed Arshavin'
Tottenham Hotspur boss Juande Ramos has revealed that he has had no contact with La Liga giants FC Barcelona about Bulgarian International Dimitar Berbatov, but refused to rule out the striker leaving White Hart Lane this summer.
Ramos also outlined what Spurs would do for the rest of the summer’s transfers, revealing that he could play a waiting game until the elite of Europe have finished their summer trading.
27-year-old Berbatov has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League Champions Manchester United. With Barca coach Pep Guardiola reportedly also making the Bulgarian his main target after reports stated earlier in the week that Guardiola had urged the board at the Catalan side to land Berbatov.
“Nobody from Barca has asked me about Berbatov. There has been no movement on that front. All I know is what I read in the papers,” Ramos told Sport.
“We will have to wait and see what happens. It is a question of waiting a bit more and then we will see how things turn out.
“All I can say about that is that I know nothing about it either. We have a list of forwards and we are working on that, not on what journalists or agents are saying.
“Many things have been said and half of them are just not true. The representatives are doing their job at this stage.”
Spurs have already seen the arrival this summer of Luka Modric, David Bentley, Heurelho Gomes, Giovani Dos Santos and John Bostock at White Hart Lane, with Ramos suggesting that the North London club have not stopped their spending.
“If we look at things along general lines then Tottenham are the club that has been the busiest this summer" he continued.
”All the major clubs will finish changing their squads next week. The Champions League starts then and some leagues too.
“I do not expect many surprises, but there could be some interesting late moves.”
Ramos then went on to comment on the protracted transfer of Russian International Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg, but could only confirm that no deal was in place for the EURO 2008 playmaker.
“The truth is that Tottenham have not signed Arshavin. I cannot say whether a deal is close or a long way off, but I have to repeat that we have not signed him.”
