Premiership predictions for Saturday/Sunday 25/26 August 2007:

Sunderland v Liverpool (12.45pm Saturday BST)

Rafa Benitez may have missed out on Heinze, but he still has 57 other varieties of player at his disposal. Sunderland have significantly less choice, and can only hope that their back four don’t capitulate like they did last week against Wigan.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Fernando Torres

Prediction: Liverpool win (3-1)

Arsenal v Man City (3.00pm Saturday BST)

The Bitter Blues travel to the Emirates to test another of the top four’s mettle. Arsenal are unfavoured this season, but this confident City side will do well not to underestimate them.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Alexander Hleb

Prediction: Arsenal win (2-0)

Aston Villa v Fulham (3.00pm Saturday BST)

Both teams will be looking to kick start their season here. Villa have shown great defensive qualities, but have yet to score from open play. Fulham’s fortunes are the exact opposite. They’re free scoring but, in Tony Warner, they have an extremely suspect last line of defence.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: David Healy

Prediction: Fulham win (1-2)

Bolton v Reading (3.00pm Saturday BST)

Rock bottom Bolton have nowhere to hide as Steve Coppell’s Reading roll into the JJB. Bolton have enough talent and experience to win this match and, if captain Kevin Nolan recaptures his form, I have a feeling they will scrap their way to all three points.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Kevin Nolan

Prediction: Bolton win (2-0)

Chelsea v Portsmouth (3.00pm Saturday BST)

This season Chelsea have a habit of conceding the first goal. Portsmouth are unbeaten this term, and are capable of continuing this trend. The question is, can they break Chelsea’s other habit, which is clawing their way back into games and getting a result?

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Shaun Wright-Phillips

Prediction: Chelsea win (3-1)

Derby v Birmingham (3.00pm Saturday BST)

Both teams are already assuming their positions at the foot of the table. Last season, in their quest for promotion, Birmingham had the better of Derby in both meetings. I think this match will go the same way.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Olivier Kapo

Prediction: Birmingham City win (0-1)

West Ham v Wigan (3.00pm Saturday BST)

Talk about a grudge match. Last season, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan did his utmost to form an allegiance with six Premiership clubs, with a view to seeking damages from West Ham – regarding the Carlos Tevez affair. Rumour has it that he’s in St Tropez this weekend, but he’s more than happy to let his team travel to Upton Park without him – not the kind of guy you’d want to share a foxhole with. My prediction – pain.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Mark Noble

Prediction: West Ham win (3-2)

Everton v Blackburn (5.15pm Saturday BST)

Both teams have started the season brightly, and are very evenly matched. Everton have a lot of injuries in attack with Victor Anichibe and Tim Cahill out. If they manage to seal the deal with Yakubu, he should go straight into the team. Otherwise they could struggle.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: David Dunn

Prediction: Blackburn Rovers win (0-1)

Middlesbrough v Newcastle (1.30pm Sunday BST)

The North-East derby could be a one-sided affair – especially if Yakubu finally signs for Everton. Southgate was handed a lifeline last weekend, when Tony Warner’s error and ref Andy D’Urso’s poor decision gifted his team the win. Newcastle look a lot tighter defensively this season, and will be boosted by the return to fitness of Michael Owen.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Michael Owen

Prediction: Newcastle Utd win (0-2)

Man United v Tottenham (4.00pm Sunday BST)

This game, even this early in the season, is being touted as a must-win for both teams. Spurs manager Martin Jol’s career is hanging by a knife edge after just three matches played. Man U cannot afford to drop any more points, if they are to have any hope of retaining the title. With key men Rooney and Ronaldo still out, the creative responsibilities fall to new boys Carlos Tevez and Nani, and old boy’s Scholes and Giggs.

SquadGod Fantasy Football pick of the week: Paul Scholes

Prediction: Manchester Utd win (2-1)
