Portugal Star Deco Wants Move To Premier League Or Serie A After Barcelona Let Him Become Free Agent
Barcelona’s Portuguese international Deco has been told by Barcelona that he can leave the Nou Camp this summer, with Deco saying he wants a move from La Liga and is hoping to play in England’s Premier League or Italy’s Serie A next season.
30-year-old Deco moved to the Catalan giants from FC Porto in June 2004, making over 100 appearances for Barca, scoring 14 goals in the process.
Deco’s contract was due to run until 2010, but on Thursday his agent was informed that Deco was now a free agent.
Deco, who is expected to feature for Portugal in this summers EURO 2008 Finals in Austria/Switzerland, is excited about the prospect of a move to a new league, saying in an interview: "I will go to England or Italy, I am sure.
“I won’t stay in Spain because the only club that is of Barca’s level is Madrid, and I would never go to Madrid."
Deco was once linked to Chelsea, back in 2004 during Jose Mourinho’s reign, but the attacking midfielder decided on a move to The Camp Nou instead.
Now that Deco is a free agent, there are sure to be a host of Premier League clubs that would jump at the chance to sign the Portuguese international.
