Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly targeting Liverpool striker Peter Crouch in a £9million bid after having seen his approach for Nicolas Anelka turned down by Bolton Wanderers.

The Mirror has suggested that even as Reds boss Rafa Benitez is very much certain that Crouch features in his plans for the season and is not for sale, Pompey manager Redknapp hopes to seal a deal before the close of summer market on August 31.

England international Crouch, who has played under Redknapp formerly at Fratton Park and Southampton before moving to Anfield two years back in a £7m deal, is said to have been frustrated at his lack of opportunities so far this season, and held talks with manager Benitez.

According to the paper, money is available for Redknapp to reunite with the 26-year-old lanky striker and as such David Nugent is likely to be sold to Derby County.
