Portsmouth To Beat Sunderland & Villa To Spurs' Kaboul
Portsmouth are to beat Aston Villa and Sunderland to the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Younes Kaboul, Portsmouth, first-team coach Joe Jordan has revealed to Setanta Sports.
Jordan has said that 22-year-old Kaboul is to travel to Fratton Park on Monday to undergo a routine medical, with it then expected that the former Auxerre central-defender will put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the South coast side.
Kaboul had been linked with a move to Aston Villa or Sunderland, with Pompey manager Harry Redknapp conceding only last week that he thought Kaboul would opt for Villa.
Black cats boss Roy Keane had already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman, with Kaboul also having a medical at the Stadium of Light, but it was always Kaboul’s wish to join Redknapp at Fratton Park.
“We’re hoping to get Kaboul in tomorrow,” Jordan told Setanta Sports 1.
“Once he passes a medical, he’ll be joining our squad.
“He’s a player who’s the right age and who we’ll need.
“It will be for an undisclosed fee. He’s coming for four years.
“He's made a commitment to Portsmouth and he’ll be a very good acquisition.
“He’s at the right age, he’ll learn from playing alongside Sol Campbell.
“He’ll gain that experience that all players need and hopefully he’ll be the player we’re looking for.”
