Police Probe Sol Campbell Spurs Fans 'Abuse' Claims – Tottenham’s Poyet: ‘Sol Doesn't Deserve What Happened’
Police are probing into the claims of alleged abuse from Tottenham Hotspur fans towards Portsmouth captain Sol Campbell.
The former Spurs and Arsenal defender apparently was the target of the away fans during Sunday's defeat of Juande Ramos’ side at Fratton Park.
A police spokeswoman Melanie Turkington is quoted in The News as saying: “A complaint has been received by a member of the public so that will be investigated fully.
“The investigation is in its very early stages and we do not know what course it will take.”
The FA is, meanwhile, said to be in the process of gathering information on the match before deciding whether to proceed further.
Meanwhile, Spurs assistant boss Gus Poyet has played down the episode but not before he condemned what happened.
He told Sky Sports News: "I think it's not nice. We should be enjoying everything. Let's not go the other way and make things bigger.
"Sol doesn't deserve what happened the other day, but let's not make it any bigger because it's not worth it."
