Peter Kenyon Says No Big Money Raids For Chelsea - Slams Florent Malouda & Arjen Robben Rumours
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has extinguished the rumours that the west-London club had made a big-money offer for wantaway Lyon winger Florent Malouda.
Earlier this week, reports were rife in France claiming that the Blues have registered a £12million bid for the 27-year-old France international, who is rated by the Ligue 1 champions at £17million.
And with the Blues boss Jose Mourinho recently claiming that his club will not be spending heavily in the summer transfer market this time around, doubts were persistent on the authenticity of the reports of offer for Malouda, whose price tag is scaring away the suitors that included Liverpool and Arsenal.
"By Chelsea standards it's been very quiet," Kenyon remarked. "That's probably the headline...both in terms of names and in terms of big spending. We've had three or four so-called free transfers."
Kenyon also rubbished rumours of a prospective Real Madrid £16million bid for Dutch winger Arjen Robben.
"Arjen is very happy, he's just got married and he wants to demonstrate and prove what a great player he is and still believes the Premier League is the best opportunity. I'm confident he'll be there next season."
