Nigerian International striker Obafemi Martins has said that it is nice that Arsenal have shown an interest in him but has decided that he will stay with Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old former Inter Milan striker has a £13million buy-out clause at St James' Park and with the success he had in his debut season for the Toon, the Gunners and Manchester United were reported to be interested in signing him.

However, Martins has maintained that he is happy at the Magpies and is confident of fighting for his place with the likes of fit-again Michael Owen, who has also dismissed links with old club Liverpool, and Shola Ameobi, and new boy Mark Viduka.

"I am ready to fight for a place," Martins told The Sun. "You must be doing something nice to be linked with a club like Arsenal.

"If it's true, I must say it was a good thing to have interested a club like Arsenal. But I have a club, which I am happy about. I am committed to the Newcastle cause.

"I am employed by Newcastle and I owe them my dedication and that is it."
