Newcastle Second Trials For Viborg Striker Mensah Amidst Viduka Future Uncertainty
Newcastle United are taking a closer look at Kevin Mensah as the Viborg striker is back on trials with the Premiership outfit.
The Denmark Under-18 international is now determined to clinch a move to the St James’ Park side where Australian international Mark Viduka (Achilles injury) could go on to miss the entire season if he has to undergo an operation leaving the Magpies with a striker short with January transfer market foray to make.
The 33-year-old Viduka’s Magpies contract runs out at the end of the season, and although there is the option of another year, it is uncertain whether the Tyneside club, who are up for sale and changes expected in the management, will exercise it.
“Kevin has come over to prove that he is good enough, and that he has what we seek,” Newcastle scout Ole Nielsen told bold.dk. “And he has to also see if Newcastle have anything for him, this is two-way.
“Now, some things happened in the club last year which means that he came over again.
“But I have some of the reports from last year when he did so well and so I have had a good dialogue with (sporting director) Steffen Hojer in Viborg.”
