Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given is set to undergo an operation to cure his persistent groin problem.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has missed the last three games due to the injury, will be out for six weeks as a result of the surgery.
"After consultation with Dr Ulrike Muschaweck, Shay Given will have surgery in Munich today (18th March) to cure his recurrent groin problems," the club said on their official website.
"He is expected to make a full recovery and will be absent for a six-week period."
