While reports on Wednesday have linked Newcastle United with a move for Celtic winger Aiden McGeady, manager Kevin Keegan’s priority is to sign two new defenders before the Tyneside outfit fly out to Majorca a week today, reports the Chronicle.

The Magpies boss is known to be in the market for a left-back and has had his bid for Stephen Warnock rejected by Blackburn Rovers. Vasilis Torosidis of Olympiakos is also linked with Newcastle and so is Reading’s Nicky Shorey and Liverpool’s Emiliano Insua.

Amongst centre-backs, Chelsea’s Tal Ben Haim has been mentioned in the transfer speculation as one of the players interesting the Toon. But so far, no concrete development has taken place.
