Newcastle United are reported to be close to signing highly-rated striker Xisco from Deportivo.

The Spanish club’s website has reportedly announced the 22-year-old’s possible move to the Tyneside club.

The Spanish U-21 international, who was earlier said to be a target for Aston Villa, could reunite with his former Depor team-mate Fabricio Coloccini, who joined the Magpies earlier this summer.

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan is keen to add a striker to his squad on the deadline day as currently two of their important forwards Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins are out injured.
