Middlesbrough Boss Southgate Admits Offer For Wigan-Linked Cattermole, Dismisses Downing Speculation
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has revealed that midfielder Lee Cattermole has attracted interest, but dismissed speculation on winger Stewart Downing’s future.
According to reports, Wigan are keen on England Under 21 international Cattermole, who is looking to play regular football.
Southgate said: "We have had interest in Lee, along with a couple of our other young players.
"There has been a lot of loan interest in him and we have had a tentative offer, but that's as far as it has gone at this moment in time."
Three Lions ace Downing has been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa, but the Boro boss declared that he is not for sale and no club has approached about him.
"Stewart Downing is not for sale, it is as simple as that. We know his value," he said.
"We get calls from lots of clubs about people, but we have not had any about Stewart.”
