Match Report-Portsmouth Hold Chelsea 1-1- Anelka On-Target For Blues - New Spurs Signing Jermain Defoe Levels
Portsmouth have held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the Premiere League match played at Frattton Park on Saturday.
France internatioanl Nicolas Anelka scored his fisrt goal for Chelsea in the 56th minute while Jermain Defoe - on his debut since his move from Tottenham Hotspur - equalised in the 64th minute for Portsmouth.
Chelsea started brightly and in the very 9th minute, England international Joe Cole strike missed the target by inches.
Chelsea almost went ahead in the 34th minute, but unfortunately Niko Kranjcar brought a timely goalline clearnce off German international Michael Ballack`s header of an inswinging corner kick by Belletti.
Minute later, Pompey's Noe Pamarot saw his header off Niko Kranjcar's corner kick, hit the woodwork and rebound into play.
In the closing minutes of the first-half, Portsmouth keeper David James brilliantly thwarted Nicolas Anelka in a one to one situation to deny the Frenchman.
Ashley Cole almost put Chelsea ahead in the 52nd minute, but his low grounder was cleared from the goalline by Hreidarsson.
Chelsea finally took the lead in the 56th minute, Malouda`s teasing cross from the left side saw Joe Cole cushion the ball in the path of Nicolas Anelka who slotted the ball past the helpless Pompey keeper James 1-0.
But Pomepy responded stongly and levelled terms in the 64th minute through recent signing Jermain Defoe, who only moved from Tottenham Hotspur last week, beating Chelsea keeper Peter Cech with a neat placement after on-loan signing from Lyon - striker Milan Baros - had flicked the ball in his direction.
Defoe almost netted a second in the 78th minute for Pompey but keeper Cech was quick enough to disposes him in the nick of time and the chance went abbegging.
At the other hand, Shaun Wright Phillips controlling a long pass from Ballack saw his lob over the advanced keeper James miss the target narrowly.
Chelsea nearly snatached a win in the closing minutes, but keeper James who had an oustanding match, cleanly collected Alex's fierce header off Joe Cole's corner.
