Match Report: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Manchester United – Carlos Tevez Forces Equaliser After Berbatov Opener

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur Premiership Match Reports

A Carlos Tevez goal deep into the second half enabled Manchester United to hold Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw in their Premiership encounter at the White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Sir Alex Ferguson saw half a dozen of his players pick up bookings in today’s feisty encounter.

After some good attacking interceptions at both ends, Spurs were the first to really test the keepers, when striker Dimitar Berbatov made an amazing run on the left channel, but his deadly looking square pass was cleared at the expense of a corner by United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

However, Berbatov’s hard work paid dividends as the Bulgarian international sent the home side into the lead in the 21st minute.

Spurs right winger Aaron Lennon produced a brilliant cross which Red Devils goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar had to stretch to push to safety. However the Dutchman’s save was not enough as the ball travelled to Berbatov who had no problems whatsoever in scoring to make it 1-0.

United midfield ace Cristiano Ronaldo, who was mostly kept at bay by the Spurs defenders, managed to create some gap for himself in the 33rd minute to head Wes Brown’s perfect long cross from the right, only to see his header miss the target by a whisker.

Berbatov continued to be a threat for United. This time the pumped up striker’s volley from the center of the penalty area, off a Aaron Lennon cross sailed over the crosspiece.

The half finished 1-0 to Spurs, who looked the more threatening in the first-half.

Both the teams came back strongly in the second half with United looking determined to get control of the game.

In the 55th minute Nemanja Vidic got hold of the ball, but saw his strike from inside the penalty area miss the right corner of the goal.

A minute later Robbie Keane, having been set up by Dimitar Berbatov, made a dangerous run into the Red Devils territory but failed to beat keeper Van Der Sar in a one on one situation.

In the 75th minute Oliveira Anderson saw his left footer from the right flank being tipped away for a corner by Cerny.

With minutes ticking before the final hooter the United boys began to show signs of desperation by coming in with a series of raids but failed to give finishing touches to their well executed moves.

Seconds before the match it looked like Spurs were going to snatch away a point from Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, but the Red Devils - noted for their last minute goals - did not let their fans down when Carlos Tevez came to the rescue of his side with the all important equaliser, which went in off Michael Dawson to make it 1-1.
