Manchester United Face Severe Striker Shortage As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Is Set To Retire: Report
Reports are rife that Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided to hang up his boots due to knee problems that have plagued the Norwegian for last four years.
The 34-year-old is reportedly set to announce his retirement later on Tuesday as he struggled to regain his fitness following a corrective surgery done at the end of last season.
Solskjaer is likely to continue in a coaching role with the club and will be used as a worldwide ambassador, according to the Sun.
Solskjaer was a key member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side after signing from Norwegian side Molde for £1.5million in July 1996. He went on to make 366 appearances and scored 126 goals. His last game for United was FA Cup final in May against Chelsea.
United will now have only two out and out centre forwards in their ranks in Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha, both of whom are injured at the moment while new signing Carlos Tevez is being used in that position now.
Ferguson might now have to make a dip in transfer market that shuts on August 31 as he has shortage in the strike department with Alan Smith gone to Newcastle United and Rossi sold to Villarreal.
