Manchester United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson Not Considering Transfer Move For DC United Star Freddy Adu - Chelsea Still In Hunt
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he will not be making an immediate bid for DC United’s star teenager Freddy Adu, who is now due to return to America to MLS football after completing his two-week training spell with The Red Devils.
“Freddy Adu has done all right,” said the Man Utd boss. “He’s a talented young boy, but he is only 17 and there is nothing we can do about signing him.
“What we did was to bring him here to give him an idea of what United is like, so that he could see the place and get a feel for things here.”
The 17-year-old teenage sensation, who plays for DC United in the Major Soccer League in the USA, will not turn 18 years-old until June of next year which, is the earliest anyone can consider bringing him to the Premiership.
United will face stiff competition from English League rivals Chelsea FC, who have also shown major interest in the talented youth, who also qualifies to play at an international level with Ghana's Black Stars.
“He’s very confident and a very talented boy,” said Ferguson to Manutd.com. “But he will go back to America and we will keep a check on him.
“When he is 18 we will look at it again and see what we can do.”
There is no doubt that there will be a mass of interest from not only Premiership clubs, but top clubs from all over Europe for the signature of Adu when the summer transfer period opens in May.
