Man United’s Rooney Banks On Berbatov Excellence To Move Into A Different Level
Wayne Rooney is keen to establish his position of playing just off the striker now that Manchester United have a quality front-man in Dimitar Berbatov.
England international Rooney has more often than not fallen deep to get the ball and criticised for not being up front too much. The former Everton ace has also been employed in wide role on occasions by the Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
But the 22-year-old is now determined to enjoy where he plays his best off the shoulder of Tottenham ace Berbatov, who moved to Old Trafford on the summer transfer deadline day, despite not being guaranteed the starting place anymore.
"More than anything I like playing just off a front man. It is probably because I get on the ball more because I don't like to be out of the game too long,” said Rooney.
“Some centre-forwards can stay up front, not touch the ball and just look to score goals. I don't really enjoy doing that. I like to be involved in the game.
"Mainly at United I have been used in different roles but maybe the fact Dimitar has arrived will bring some continuity to my game because it is the same type of thing I am used to with England.
"But also the mere fact he is at Old Trafford should take me onto a different level. I am not guaranteed my place in the side anymore."
