Man United: With Ronaldo's Future Secure Ferguson To Now Land Spurs' Berbatov, But Does He Favour Barca?

Portuguese International Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford on Friday, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Dimitar Berbatov expected to follow him to Manchester United next week, according to The Mirror.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson thinks Ronaldo will be offered a new-deal for committing his future to the Premier League Champions. With Ferguson going on to make sure Bulgarian striker Berbatov has made the switch from White Hart Lane by the time the season kicks off next weekend.

Ferguson has been linked with a move for 27-year-old Berbatov since last summer, but despite having an offer in the region of £18million turned down by the North London club it is thought the two sides are getting closer to brokering a deal.

However, reports in Spain suggest that Berbatov would favour a move to FC Barcelona over United. With new Nou Camp boss Pep Guardiola reportedly urging his board last week to bring the Striker to the Catalan giants.

Ferguson meanwhile, is short of options up front with Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney expected to miss the season opener on the 16th August. So it is possible that he could be forced into making a suitable offer for his main transfer target Berbatov.
