Portuguese International Tiago Gomes revealed that he could have moved to the Premiership in the summer, with Manchester City showing interest in him, but he chose to Steaua Bucherest instead due to his love of City's local rivals Manchester United.

Gomes revealed that the Citizens wanted to sign him during the summer, however as he had been a Man United fan all his life he preferred joining Romanian outfit Steaua on loan from Estrela da Amadora.

"I was a step away from going to the Premier League and joining Manchester City," Gomes told Steaua's official magazine.

"But I have always been a big fan of Manchester United, a club I would love to play for at some point in my life.

"And I let my heart tell me I should join Steaua instead - a decision I don't regret."
