Liverpool’s Torres Proud To Equal Record
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres equalled two records when he scored the winner against Manchester City in the Premiership clash at Anfield on Sunday.
The Spanish international reached 23 goals in the league in his debut season, to achieve the same feat that former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy had set in 2001-02 campaign.
Torres also stretched his goal-scoring run at the Reds’ home venue to eight consecutive league games, thus equalling the mark set by Roger Hunt in 1962.
"I knew before the game about the chance to equal Roger Hunt's record and I am very proud to go down in this great club's history," Torres said in the Mirror.
"It is hard in your first season but it has been made easier by the support I get and by the team-mates around me."
