Liverpool, Aston Villa Premiership Transfer News
Liverpool have reportedly made a vastly improved bid to secure the services of midfielder Gareth Barry from Aston Villa.
The Reds, who had three earlier bids turned down, have been linked with a move for the England international all summer after Barry had a superb 2007-08 season for the club and country.
According to Express & Star, the Reds’ offer is worth £17m with add-ons over the length of Barry’s proposed five-year deal, depending on where Rafa Benitez’s side finish in the Premier League.
Villa boss Martin O’Neill reportedly wants £18m for the 27-year-old skipper, but reports claim that the Reds’ latest offer is their final punt.
