Liverpool Keeper Pepe Reina Praises Defenders For Helping Him Win Golden Glove Award
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has praised his defenders and said that they were the ones responsible for him getting the Barclays Golden Glove award for the third time in a row.
The Spanish keeper received the award for keeping the highest number of clean sheets in the Premiership this season.
However Reina modestly refused to receive all the credit and praised his defenders, claiming that they should be the ones who should be getting awards for their excellent work.
“The team has been defending so well for three years,” he told the official Liverpool club website.
“It's not about me. It's about the team working together, the work rate of all of us. I have said it many, many times and I will say it again – these awards are for the team, it's just that I get to keep it at home.
He added: “The fewer saves (I make) the better because it means the team is winning and giving our rivals fewer chances to score.
“At a big club, this is how it is. There are two or three saves to make and that's your responsibility. I like this responsibility.”
