Liverpool Could Renew Their Bid To Sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Srna If Pennant Moves?
Liverpool could rekindle their interest in Shakhtar Donetsk winger Darijo Srna if forgotten-man Jermaine Pennant leaves Anfield in January.
The Reds, according to Srna's agent, Igor Stimac, had failed in their bid in the summer for the 26-year-old versatile right-sided Croatian international.
Stimac said: "Liverpool came for him in August, but Rinat Akhmetov, the president of Shakhtar, rejected them. He is a very rich man and it is obvious that he does not need the money, so we will see."
Nevertheless, Rafa Benitez’s side now have ample resources on the flanks, but if former England U-21 international Pennant, who has been recently linked with Portsmouth after summer speculation on the link-up with Blackburn, moves in search of regular first-team football to get himself in England seniors reckoning, it could present the Merseysiders with a situation wherein they could renew their effort to sign Srna, who has 61 caps for his country.
25-year-old former Birmingham City and Arsenal player, Pennant has only made one start this season, that coming in the Carling Cup win against Crewe and could be open to a move away from Liverpool in January.
