Liverpool Closing In On New Transfer Signings - Reds Fans To Expect: "Something In The Next Week.” - Tom Hicks
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has confirmed that some new big-name signings will be made this summer, urging Reds supporters to 'just be patient' for them to secure some of Benitez’s summer transfer targets.
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has already secured some of their top-players to longer deals, with skipper Steven Gerrard and centre-back Jamie Carragher having both recently signed extensions that will keep them at Anfield until 2011, and now Hicks has promised to bring in new faces to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2007/08 season.
Hicks, speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv, said: "I would say to fans, 'just be patient', because we're talking to Rafa often.”
Hicks then indicated that it won’t be long at all before Rafa Benitez starts unveiling some big-name summer signings, with Liverpool targeting Seville’s Daniel Alves, Lyon winger Florent Malouda, Real Zaragoza central defender Gabriel Milito and West Ham and Argentina striker Carlos Tevez to name just some of the players that have been linked to the club.
"Rick Parry [Liverpool's chief executive] is in charge of getting the contracts negotiated and I think the fans will like the outcome,” said Hicks, finishing with: “Maybe we'll hear something in the next week.”
Hicks also revealed that the stadium designs of the new Anfield stadium in Stanley Park are due to be submitted to Liverpool City council later this month, which is when Liverpool fans will be able to see the Reds' new home and what the new Kop will look like.
"The design is now final," said Hicks about the revised stadium plans.
"It's spectacular and I can't wait for everybody to see it. I think our fans will love it. It's very creative architecture, very contemporary but also unique to Liverpool.
"It is all centred around the Kop - it will be the symphony stage that plays to the symphony hall."
