Liverpool Boss Rafa Benitez Approaches Barcelona Over Cameroon Striker Samuel Eto’o – Robbie Fowler In Talks With MLS Side
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has approached Barcelona over Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o, according to Spanish television report.
25-year-old Eto’o, who is linked with Chelsea and Arsenal, is said to be Rafa’s prime target for summer as American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have promised full backing to the manager.
Benitez had reportedly tried to sign Eto’o from Real Mallorca when Michael Owen left Anfield two years ago.
However, Eto’o stayed in Spain, moving to Barcelona instead for a fee of £16million.
Eto’o had recently been involved in public row with manager Frank Rijkaard and team-mate Ronaldinho.
Meanwhile, New England Revolution coach Steve Nicol has claimed he has held talks with Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler about a move to Major League Soccer in America.
31-year-old Fowler is out of contract in summer and is yet to be offered a new deal.
Benitez said recently, he would like as good a finisher as Fowler in case the player leaves Reds in summer. However, the Spaniard also hinted that the Liverpool legend might still be handed new deal since he has been scoring goals.
