Liverpool Boss Benitez Recalls Sammy Lee To Reds Coaching Staff After Ayesteran & Miller Departure
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has re-appointed Sammy Lee to the Liverpool coaching staff on Friday, announcing Lee as his new assistant manager at Anfield.
Since the departure of Benitez's former coaching assistants Paco Ayesteran and Alex Miller, former Reds player Lee has returned to Anfield to take up the position he held under former Liverpool managers Graeme Souness and Gerard Houllier.
Lee played for The Reds for a period of 10 years, between 1976 and 1986 and re-joined as part of the coaching team under Graeme Souness in 1993, where he remained until 2001, when Lee became a part-time coach under Sven-Göran Eriksson with England, eventually leaving Liverpool to go full-time with the national set-up in July 2004.
Benitez mentioned how happy he was to have Lee back in the fray at the Merseyside giants, saying: "We are very pleased to have brought Sammy back to Liverpool because he is someone who knows the club really well."
Lee has signed a two year contract with the club.
