Liverpool Boss Benitez Eager To Sign RCD Espanyol & Spain Winger Albert Riera - Sebastian Leto May Go On Loan
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly targeting RCD Espanyol winger Albert Riera for a move to Anfield this summer.
Sport.es has reported that Benitez is eager to seal a deal for the Espanyol winger, with the likelihood of Liverpool’s young Argentine winger Sebastian Leto travelling to Spain to join Espanyol’s Periquitos on a loan-deal.
26-year-old Riera has already had offers in the region of £8million (€10million) from Liverpool and Serie A side Fiorentina refused, with the Espanyol board valuing the player closer to £12million (€15million).
The possibility of a cash-plus-loan deal would benefit both sides, with Benitez eager to loan-out the promising Argentine left-winger to Espanyol so he may gain some vital first-team experience.
21-year-old Leto had been linked with a loan-move back to Argentina to join River Plate, only for Benitez to decide against it. Spanish side Racing Santander also showed interest in a loan deal for Leto, but that too fell through.
Riera is reportedly keen on a move to England’s Premier League, and the deal is expected to be finalised sooner rather than later, with Riera due to travel with the Spain squad to the European Championships in June, and with the Liverpool boss eager to secure the transfer before the tournament begins.
