Liverpool Agree Fee With Juventus For Spain International Xabi Alonso - Juve Admit Failure In Signing AS Roma's Aquilani

Liverpool and Spain international midfielder Xabi Alonso is said to have agreed a move to Italian giants Juventus.

Italian daily Corriere dello Sport have claimed that a fee has been agreed for the Liverpool midfielder, with a fee of £14.2million (€18million) now enough to seal the move for Alonso to Serie A.

Alonso was due to have signed for Juventus a few weeks ago, but Liverpool refused to lower their asking price of £15million (€19million).

Juventus reportedly increased their offer to €18million on Wednesday, (approx. £14.2million), with the Italian giants adamant that that would be their final offer.

On Friday Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has admitted defeat in their quest to sign AS Roma's Alberto Aquilani, and has now had to maintain their bid for Liverpool's Alonso, who has been touted with a move to Turin for some time.

Gigli admitted: “For Aquilani there is an interest but there are no negotiations because I believe he will stay at Roma.”

The transfer of Alonso to Claudio Ranieri's Juventus will add extra funds for Rafa Benitez's touted move for Aston Villa's Gareth Barry.
