Kevin Phillips’ Possible Stay Could See West Brom Pull Out Of Chase For Newcastle’s Ameobi – Ipswich Linked
West Bromwich Albion could give up their interest in Shola Ameobi as it looks increasingly likely that Kevin Phillips could extend his stay at the Hawthorns, and as such Championship side Ipswich Town are encouraged in their pursuit of Newcastle United striker.
Phillips had been hoping for a new two-year deal with the Baggies, but it might not be on the offer according to his agent. However, he suggested that the 34-year-old could accept the one-year contract Tony Mowbray is willing to give, for the lure of the Premier League.
Amidst the doubts on Phillips’ future, the Baggies were linked with Town-target Ameobi. However, it is looking likely that the former England U-21 international may not draw in a bid from West Brom if Phillips stays.
As such, the Tractor Boys, who have reportedly failed with £3.5 million bid for Ameobi earlier this month, could get another chance to convince the 26-year-old.
