Joe Cole Set For Chelsea Stay As Real Madrid Rule Out Robinho Sale

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool Premiership Transfer News

Joe Cole is set to stay at Chelsea and is confident of sorting out a new long-term deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge for life, amidst reports from Spain claiming that Real Madrid are determined to keep hold of Brazil ace Robinho, who has been linked heavily to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side.

England winger Cole’s future with the Blues had come under speculation with new boss Scolari showing interest in his compatriot Robinho, who reportedly is set to get an improved contract at the Bernabeu.

Aston Villa and Liverpool were linked with Cole as it was speculated that the former West Ham man would make way for Robinho. However, the 26-year-old showed that he has started in the same form that made him the star man last season as he got Scolari’s reign off to a smooth start with the opening goal in 4-0 rout of Portsmouth on Sunday in the Premiership opener at home.

Cole, has however put his contract talks on hold at the moment, but is keen to stay with the west-Londoners.

"I just wanted to put it to bed now," he said. "Obviously we wanted to get it sorted out this year but with the new manager coming in and players coming in and out there wasn't enough time.

"I love it here, the club wants to sign me and there won't be any problems on that front. I just want to concentrate on my performances and play well because it's not nice for the fans to have an ongoing thing. But I will be a Chelsea player for the rest of my career."

Earlier Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon said of Robinho: “He has looked very happy, he is going to play this season with us I am absolutely sure.

“He has looked lively, very happy and full of desire. And the coach Bernd Schuster has told me that he is training very well.”
